Wilson becomes the first high school to earn the

prestigious School of

Distinction award six years in a row!

Congratulations to Wilson High School for winning the School of Distinction Award for an unprecedented sixth year in a row becoming the first and only high school in the state to reach that achievement. This honor is based on outstanding improvements in student reading, math, and graduation rates over a 5 year period of time.

“Wilson has a very focused, caring, consistent and supportive Ram community” said Principal Dan Besett. This award recognizes everyone in our system, from our custodians who open doors for students to get their homework to teachers who plan high quality, engaging lessons.”

Greg Lobdell, CEO of the Center for Educational Effectiveness, praised Wilson’s achievement as “truly remarkable,” noting that “of the nearly 400 high schools considered each year for the award, Wilson’s six-year streak demonstrates that in a large urban high school, a passionate and dedicated staff and leadership team can sustain improvement over a long period of time. The real winners here are all the students served at Wilson.”

The 2016 School of Distinction awards is sponsored by The Center for Educational Effectiveness, the Association of Educational Service Districts, the Association of Washington School Principals, Washington Association of School Administrators and the Washington State School Directors’ Association.
