Being Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Kind is the Browns Point Beluga Way. These expectations guide both students and staff to make choices that foster and support learning. Teachers and staff at Browns Point meet regularly to review student data and make plans based on individual student needs. Teachers and staff are also supported and encouraged to continue their individual professional development and learning. The culture of collaboration and support extends to Browns Point families and community partners. The active PTA helps support school activities, and volunteers are always welcome. Browns Point also offers two Highly Capable programs. SAIL is a five-day-a-week program for the top 1 percent, and JAWS is a one-day-a-week pull-out program.
Athletics: During the 2017-2018 school year soccer, golf, basketball, flag football, volleyball, and baseball will be offered. Registration occurs prior to each season and scholarships are available. *Please note registration is through our community partners.
Heights is part of the Tacoma Whole Child Initiative, a partnership between
Tacoma Public Schools and the University of Washington Tacoma. Through this
initiative Crescent Heights’ teachers receive guidance, support and tools to
help them connect and serve the individual social and emotional needs of every
student. Teachers meet twice a month to collaboratively review student academic
progress and develop plans. Learning and achievement is celebrated throughout
the year with Student of the Month assemblies. And each year, the school hosts
a reading night, a math night and a science fair. Fifth Graders at Crescent
Heights participate in a three-day outdoor learning experience at Camp Seymour.
The once-a-week Highly Capable JAWS program is offered in grades three, four
and five. Crescent Heights maintains high expectations while providing fun and
engaging learning opportunities.

Tacoma is currently applying to be recognized as an innovative school for its
incorporation of visual and performing arts into daily instruction. This
instructional approach aims to reach students on many levels and builds a
foundation for academic success. Community partnerships include Arts
Enviro-Challenger and Arts Impact of WA and University of Washington Tacoma.
Additionally, Northeast Tacoma uses a Positive Behavior Intervention and
Supports (PBIS) model, which recognizes and rewards positive behavior to
building a culture where students take pride and ownership in their learning
and interactions. The five-day-a-week Highly Capable GATE program is offered in
grades three, four and five.
