Bryan​​t Montessori

Bryant Montessori is ​Tacoma's only public, preschool through eighth-grade Montessori program and one of the few in Washington. Montessori is an educational approach that emphasizes self-directed learning. Classrooms are mixed age, with Children’s House (age 3-Kindergarten), Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3) and Upper Elementary (Grades 4-5). Students work uninterrupted for long periods of time on tasks they choose from a range of options with the teacher facilitating progress. The approach aims to cultivate concentration, leadership, self-motivation and a sense of community. Bryant also offers the five-day-a-week Highly Capable GATE program in grades three, four and five.

DeLong staff think of themselves as more than school; they are a second home where all students feel welcome and where engaging learning happens. In addition to K-5 general education classrooms, DeLong offers the five-day-a-week Highly Capable GATE program in grades three, four and five, a full-time English Language Learner classroom, two Learning Resource Center classrooms and one Therapeutic Learning Center classroom, which supports the academic and emotional needs of special education students in a small group setting. Teachers engage in weekly planning meetings by grade level and work together to create plans to address individual student needs. DeLong has an involved PTA that bring community partners and fun activities to DeLong students throughout the year.

Franklin is part of the Tacoma Whole Child Initiative, a partnership with Tacoma Public Schools and University of Washington Tacoma. Through the Whole Child Initiative, Franklin teachers and staff receive guidance, support and tools, including the implementation of a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) model. PBIS rewards and recognizes positive behavior and helps to create a safe, positive and nurturing environment for all students. Teachers use data and research to make decisions and create lesson plans. Franklin offers the once-a-week Highly Capable JAWS program in grades three through five.

McCarver IB World Scho​ol

McCarver provides its students with an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. The IB program is inquiry-based and focuses on six core subjects. The students learn language, math, science, social studies, arts and personal, social and physical education. Teachers use interdisciplinary units to teach topics. McCarver also focuses on character development and creating learners who are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. McCarver students may continue their IB education at Wainwright Intermediate School or Giaudrone Middle School. McCarver also offers the five-day-a-week Highly Capable GATE program for grades three, four and five. In addition to its unique instruction, McCarver has an innovative housing partnership project, operated by the Tacoma Housing Authority, which provides housing subsidies to a limited number of low-income McCarver families if they commit to keeping their child at McCarver for elementary school and being actively involved in their child’s education.

Stanley Elem​​entary

Stanley is​ located in Tacoma's Hilltop, one of Tacoma’s most revitalized neighborhoods. Staff is committed to the success of every student as evidenced through academic rigor, high expectations for all and relentless and urgent instruction of state standards. Stanley focuses on the whole child by offering a variety of academic and social support services. And Stanley was recognized in 2010 and 2012 as a Washington State School of Distinction.
