Das Auto

Cars crash every day; an entire industry repairs wrecked cars, designs new models, creates more efficient engines while the global industry also recognizes the effects of internal combustion engines.

This enrichment course will focus on the design of crumple zones, the alternative fuel choices and of course visiting a local car museum to understand the history of the automobile and how autonomous vehicles will shape our future travels.

Students will be expected to design and implement crash scenarios – allowing the ‘vehicle’ to absorb and disperse the energies generated during a crash while keeping the occupant safe.

Students could, maybe… create biodiesel fuel from simple vegetable oil – potentially using used vegetable oil from a local restaurant – then using chemistry generating fryer biodiesel that smells like a kitchen fryer while driving down the road.
