Consider SOTA, SAMi and iDEA for high school. Tacoma
Public Schools is proud to offer many innovative educational opportunities to
our high school students, including full high school programs at Tacoma School
of the Arts (SOTA), the Science and Math Institute (SAMi) and the new School of
Industrial Design Engineering and Art (iDEA). This year, your student is
eligible to apply to SOTA, SAMi, or iDEA for entrance in Fall 2018 as a member
of the Class of 2022. If your student has an interest in music, theatre, dance,
the sciences, engineering, industrial design, mathematics, natural sciences,
outdoor education or visual arts then SOTA, SAMi and idea are opportunities to consider.
SOTA,SAMi and iDEA are currently seeking 8th grade applicants who are
motivated, independent thinkers interested in exploring new ways of learning.
Located through-out Tacoma, SOTA, SAMi and iDEA provide
hands-on project-based learning that emphasizes community partnerships with many
business and cultural organizations. Students have access to resources, faculty,
events, and lectures at the University of Washington Tacoma, Tacoma Community
College, Metro Parks, the Tacoma Art Museum, the Washington State History
Museum, the Museum of Glass, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Fort
Nisqually, the Metro Parks Marina, and the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts.

community involvement, and performance spaces for SOTA, SAMi and iDEA students.
These unique environments encourage students to take ownership of their
education and become an integral part of the community.
Tacoma Public Schools is fortunate to be able to provide a
relevant, rigorous, arts, science and engineering integrated education to our
students. We value the education SOTA, SAMi and iDEA provide to students. The

Our son is currently a Junior and SOTA truly is the "best thing that ever happened to him". He really IS happy to go to school everyday. He loves his teachers he's now engaged in subjects that he had previously struggled in and we feel like he is blossoming into this amazing adult before our eyes. Unlike most public high schools parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed. My husband and I have tried to stay involved (through volunteering) and we have seen first hand the creative supportive respectful engaging fun challenging inspiring amazing environment this school has created for the students staff parents and its surrounding community. I say all the time (and hear it from so many other parents).. "I WISH THEY HAD A SCHOOL LIKE THIS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER!" - Parent 2011
