Fun for the whole family!
Ready! Set! Read! at Sherman is a 20 minute program for preschool children to hear a brief story and check out books each Tuesday from 9:00 to 9:20 (day of the week and time may vary from year to year). Parents attend with their 3-5 year old preschooler for a 2-3 minute story time. This program runs October through May. Our librarian, Greg Wills, can be reached at 253-571-5464 Tuesday through Friday. Visit the Ready! Set! Read! website at http://www.readysetread-tacoma.org/.
Many of you may be aware of the Ready! Set! Read!-Tacoma Program. It is for toddlers and pre-school children and is available in the school library for any families living in the vicinity of the school, whether they have children attending the school or not. You can visit the librarian to find out how to check out pre-school books to read to your little ones. The books come with tips for parents on how to make reading aloud fun and educational for your children, while preparing them for success in kindergarten. http://readysetread-tacoma.org/online_version.html. Tacoma Public Library is partnering with this program. You can see and check out any of the 75 titles there.
But, most school age children still like to be read to by a parent, even pre-teens and teenagers. It’s a great way to have some close quality time with your child, reinforce their language skills, and have fun with a really good book. Here are some great resources for getting started.
