Family and Community Learning Academy

Tacoma Public Schools Family & Community Learning Academy (FCLA) offers free sessions for parents from all backgrounds, to sharpen their skills  in assisting their children to succeed in school. FCLA is open to the entire community!

Purpose of FCLA

  • Bring families and the community together around the common goal of investing our time, skills and diverse abilities in the education of our children and youth —whose future, in turn, will affect the quality of life in the entire Tacoma community.
  • Create shared leadership to improve academic outcomes for youth.
  • Design a model that can be duplicated for families and community working to support student success.

Through a partnership with Tacoma School District and community partners, FCLA will provide approximately 150+ families ( K-12) and community members with skills, knowledge and resources to assist student educational growth and development in targeted areas of Tacoma on an annual basis.

All FCLA sessions align with or support TPS' strategic goals:

  1. Academic Excellence
All students will perform at or above grade level, and we will eliminate disparities among all groups of students.
  2. Partnerships
We will fully engage our parents, community and staff in the education of our children.
  3. Early Learning
We will focus on early assessment and intervention at the Pre-K through third grade levels to ensure early academic success.
  4. Safety
All schools will create and maintain safe learning environments that promote excellent academic achievement.
