Free Microsoft Office 2016 download for Tacoma students and families

Students and families: Take advantage of your opportunity to download up to five free copies of Microsoft Office 2016 onto your personal computing devices. 

By downloading Microsoft Office 2016, students and their families can access programs useful for school and professional work. 

All students enrolled in Tacoma Public Schools can download up to five free personal copies of Microsoft Office 2016 through their district Microsoft Office 365 account. The download includes Office applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. You can download the applications on desktop computers, laptops and tablets. 

Students receive the free downloads due to Tacoma Public Schools' partnership with Microsoft on multiple projects and initiatives. By providing thousands of students with home access to the software, the district expects it will lead to improved academic success over time, said Dave Davis, director of Instructional Technology.

1.  What does the free download of Microsoft Office 2016 include?

Microsoft Office 2016 includes the complete suite of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Outlook. Microsoft Office 2016 is the latest version of the Office software released by Microsoft. 

2.  How many copies can I download?

Every student enrolled in Tacoma Public Schools can download Microsoft Office 2016 up to five times. Copies can be downloaded on to personal computing devices owned by the student or their family. Microsoft Office 2016 can be downloaded onto PC and Mac desktop computers, laptops or tablets.

3.  Is it free?

Yes, every student enrolled in Tacoma Public Schools can download Microsoft Office 2016 onto five devices. The download is free for Tacoma students due to the District’s partnership with Microsoft on multiple projects and initiatives. The current cost to purchase Microsoft Office 2016 for individuals is $149.99 per computer. 

4.  Do I need to download Microsoft Office 2016 annually? 

No, the Office 2016 software you download is enabled over the Internet, so updates are automatically included.

5.  What devices can I download Microsoft Office 2016 on? 

Students can download Microsoft Office 2016 on any personal desktop computer, laptop or tablet.

6.  Does the District provide support services for Microsoft Office 2016? 

No. Families are advised to contact Microsoft directly for help if there are problems with the Microsoft Office 2016 software. 

To download Microsoft Office 2016, follow these instructions:

1. Chose “Login to O365” from the Student tab on the top navigation bar of

2. Enter your student login (school email address) and password for Office 365.

3. Click on “Install Office 2016” on the top right corner of your student’s Office 365 homepage. Download will begin instantly.
