Please follow these steps when setting up your new computer for the first time.

*Note: You must be able to connect to Wi-Fi at the start of this process. If you do not have Wi-fi at your home, you can connect to a smart phone as a hotspot, go to any Starbucks, McDonalds or other location where free Wi-fi is available.

Setting up your computer:

  1. Press the power button to power on the laptop/computer
  2. Hi There: Select Country (United States), Preferred language, Keyboard layout, and time zone ((UTC-08:88 Pacific Time (US & Canada))
  3. Click Next
  4. Here's the legal stuff: Accept
  5. Let's get connected. Select Wi-fi name and enter password if required

    *If you do not see any Wi-Fi signals showing up, check the Wi-Fi indicator light on the laptop. If it is not lit up blue, touch the symbol to turn it on. You will not be able to connect to any of the TPS Wi-fi options.
  6. Get Going Fast: Select Customize or Use Express settings. I recommend Use Express settings. You can always add any customizations later in settings. Wait through the set-up process. This may take a bit of time.
  7. Who Owns this PC? Enter your name, DO NOT enter a password.
  8. Make it yours – select Skip this Step. If you create an account with a password, you MUST make note of the password. We have no ability to assist with a forgotten password. The 2-week warranty does not cover password issues.
  9. Who is going to use this PC? Do NOT enter a password
  10. Meet Cortana: Choose Not now, or Use Cortana
  11. Continue to follow any onscreen prompts for Updates and completion of setup.

Activate Windows:

  1. Type "This PC" in the Start/Search
  2. Right click on This PC
  3. Select Properties
  4. Select Change Product Key
  5. Enter the product key on the white label on the back of your computer

Accessing your Office 365 account:

You must be connected to the internet to access your Office 365 account.

  1. Open any web browser
  2. Navigate to the Tacoma School District website
  3. Select Students, and Login to O365
  4. Enter your school username and password

Install Office 2016 to your computer:

As a TPS student, you may install Office 2016 on any device, up to 5 devices including your Laptops2Kids computer you received.

  1. Log into your Office 365 account.
  2. Click Install Office 2016 in the upper right corner
  3. Follow all onscreen prompts
