  • ​The revised student calendars taking into account snow days are now published on the calendar page here. The state received a waiver for the snow days, so our last day of school is still Friday, June 14th. We will use Friday May 24th as a snow makeup day for the one day that needs to be made up.
  • Sign up to show off your creations at the UWTacoma Maker Faire at the University of Washington with Graduate Tacoma! Fill out an application here​
  • The next All-School "Opt-In Breakout" is Friday, March 28, 2019 during mentor group. Check in first with your mentor group to get your location assignment. A&A will run regularly in the afternoon. 
  • Thursday, 3/21 is the SAT Test for Juniors. Juniors will recieve their SAT room assignment in mentor group today and will take the SAT test until about 12:45 on Thursday. The schedule for Freshman and Sophomores will remain the same and they will arrive late to their afternoon classes and will be excused from their morning classes for the test. 
  • Spring Break is April 1-14. Enjoy!

March 8, 2019
  • Student Led Conferences are the week of March 11, make sure to schedule a conference with your mentor today. 
  • ​The revised student calendars taking into account snow days are now published on the calendar page here. The state received a waiver for the snow days, so our last day of school is still Friday, June 14th. We will use Friday May 24th as a snow makeup day for the one day that needs to be made up.
  • Attention all IDEA students! If you are interested in helping volunteer for any of the upcoming First Look's, talk to Mrs. Johnson, Higgins or your ASB rep. The first meeting is this Saturday where all the details will be covered. If you have not participated before, there is also an application to be filled out.

  • Service and Study Tours are now announced for the 2020 trip season! For more information attend an information night​. The trip options include:
    • Hawai'i - Matt Lonsdale (SAMI) & Kainoa Higgins (IDEA)
    • Washington D.C. - Matt Sherls (SAMI)
    • Camp Seymour - Diane Savage (SOTA) and Dave Savage (SOTA)
    • Greece & Jordan - Brian Scannell (SOTA)
    • Uganda - Melissa Moffett (IDEA)
  • Class breakouts are today during A&A after lunch 
    • Juniors are headed to LeMay. The shuttle will leave at 1 PM from the front of the school on Park Avenue. Students may also drive, take the 1 or the 45. The shuttle will return at 3:20 for those that need to return to campus. STudents will be released at 3:30 from LeMay
    • Freshman will meet on the third floor and will be separted into 3 classrooms
    • Sophomores will meet in the PRL

February 15, 2019

  • Schedule changes are now complete and the change request form has been taken down. 
  • The school district is applying for a state waiver for the snow days this past week. Stay tuned for updates on the calendar. We still need to make up the snow day from Monday, 2/4 which will be made up on Friday, May 24th - this was a previously scheduled no school day to be used for snow make up days. 
  • Fill out your mentee profile today in the new Spring Mentor manual! Check with your mentor for details. 

February 8, 2019
  • ​​We have an early release today - school will be dismissed at 10:50 AM due to the snow storm. 
  • Reminder for schedule changes: We are processing through all changes, if you still need a class changed please submit the change request form to the left. 
  • Please register for A&A classes today. The first day of A&A will be 2/22/19. Please still register even if you want to stay in the same class as last semester. There are also new classes available. http://bit.ly/2SzruQo​​
  • Please check the website regularly for updates regarding school closure and late starts due to the weather. 

December 21, 2018​
  • Today is the last day of Fall Semester. There will be no school for the next two weeks from 12/22/18 - 1/06/19. Miniterm starts on 1/07/19 and students should return from break to their miniterm location on Monday, 1/07. 
  • We are working on getting all Spring semester schedules to students. If you have a student that wants to be a Bridge or in TIME class next semester, please have them fill out this form. We are still working on filling in missing holes and correcting second semester schedules. They will be up to date in HAC by miniterm. Any changes that need to be requested by students can be made online via the schedule change request form on the left. This link will be made active once all changes are made on our end, by the start of miniterm on 1/7. 

December 14, 2018

  • IDEAvoice ASB Core Elections are today. 
    • You can find the video IDEAvoice Elections 2019.mp4 under the ASB channel in TEAMS. it is just over 6 minutes. 
    • This is the link to the online election portal: http://bit.ly/IDEAvoice2019 Please write it on your white boards.
    • Instructions are built in but students will use their Student ID # and last name (legal and lower case) to log in. The ballot opens at 10:30 and closes at 4:00 today. Please encourage all students to participate. Last year we had 57%.
  • Next week is the last week of our term. We return from break on Monday the 7th of January (this is later than the rest of the district). We enter into Mini-term...
  • Help to ensure that students know how they will get to their mini-term placement. Your answer to students about changing their mini-term is fundamentally "no". Please explain to them that we work hard to provide opportunities for choice. Of the LARGE selection of mini-term classes they were guaranteed one of their top five choices. The only conversation to have is one where this did not happen (we have the data to disprove the claim in most cases).​
  • Keep in mind that Ultimate Friday is coming up next week. Check in with your students about what they will be involved with.

  • Blood Drive is today! Check out the blood drive mobile in the parking lot to set up a time or talk to your mentor. 
  • IDEAVoice ASB Elections are underway. Election application packets are due to Kelilah by Wednesday (12/5) at 4:00. Please remind students if you hear they are involved in the process.
  • Pillar O’ the Week: Thinking
  • Breakout on 12/7 - We will have a Community Opt-In Breakout Discussion on Friday, 12/7 around issues of race and culture in our community. These Opt-In Breakouts are happening four times a year, centered around our 4 pillars, empathy, community, balance and thinking. This breakout is on community. 
  • ASB cards for sale in office with Steve. Provides discounts things like sporting events, dances, and school gear. 
  • Ultimate Friday! Look for coming information about the mentor group Feast and celebration day on 12/21 - Ultimate Friday! 
  • Propel Girls Ambassador Group - please talk to your female students who want to be an ambassador for the Propel Girls STEM Initiative. Come talk to Zach to sign up.​

  • Miniterm Registration is open! Every student must register. Please register here! ​
  • Picture retake day is today - please send your students that need retakes to the TV Portable. 
  • Propel Girls Ambassador Group - please talk to your female students who want to be an ambassador for the Propel Girls STEM Initiative. Come talk to Zach to sign up.

  • The Blood Drive will be Friday, November 30. I will give mentors permission slips to give to interested students (16 or older) during the staff meeting tomorrow. Students should turn in their permission slips and sign up for times with Peter! He has the sign up sheet posted for students to sign up during class change, lunch, or mpg time—not during class of course.
  • ASB will be having elections this winter! Please let students know to be on the lookout for the schedule of mandatory info sessions coming up after Thanksgiving!

  • ​Propel Girls Ambassador Group - please talk to Zach if you want to volunteer 
  • Free community dance class tonight.  It is at 6:30 at SOTA.  It is a hip hop class taught by Angel Williams, one of our Adjunct Artist at SOTA.  It is open to 8th grade – high school students and it is FREE!
  • On THURSDAY LUNCH Han-Yin (adjunct teacher) will kick off the series by talking about her career, architecture, and design in the Fabrication Lab.  Poster, info, flashy advertising to follow.  Tell your MPG (especially girls interested in architecture and design) to come at 11:30.  They can eat lunch during.
  • We will not have an all-school Thanksgiving Feast before Thanksgiving Break. We will instead do an all-school feast on the Friday before Winter Break. Your MPG is welcome to plan whatever they want for Thanksgiving individually.
  • We will have another all-school Break Out on Friday, December 7—this time on the subject of race and culture. Please let your mentees know tomorrow during MPG and have students complete this survey if they are interested in helping plan and/or lead the break out! http://bit.ly/ideabreakout2​ 
  • Please advertise the blood drive which will be Friday, November 30 in MPG tomorrow. They will sign up through their math class.

  • ​ASB Membership
    • You can currently buy an ASB membership for only $15! All you have to do is talk to Steve, and bring $15 in cash, card or check, and your student ID card. Having an ASB Membership means you can get free or discounted tickets to dances, sports games, and events while also helping to fund those future events!
  • Next Week is Spirit Week! Show your school spirit on these days: 
    • Monday- Color Wars (Freshman in green, Sophomores in purple, and Juniors in orange)
    • Tuesday- Twin Day
    • Wednesday- Character Day
    • Thursday- Future Career Day (or what you want to be when you grow up)
    • Friday- Professionalism Day (wear business casual)


October 19, 2018
  • ​Students will complete the Healthy Youth Survey​ in Mentor Groups today. 
  • Student Led COnferences are next week. Make sure you have a conference scheduled with your mentor and fill out the SLC worksheet for fall conferences which is linked on this page. 
  • Sign up for an ASB Club! There will be a complete list of ASB Clubs and meeting times available the last week in November
  • Spirit Week is October 28-November 2nd. 
  • PSAT Day is October 24, 2018. We will have PSAT Testing in the morning for all 9, 10th and 11th grade students and periods 3 and 4 after lunch. Students taking classes in the afternoon at SOTA and SAMI will stay at IDEA for the afternoon as those classes will not be in session. 
  • There will be no classes on Friday, October 26th, 2018 for students for student led conferences. 


October 5, 2018 Announcements
  • Make sure you have a conference scheduled with your mentor and your family for the week of 10/22-10/26. There will be no classes on Friday, 10/26 for conferences
  • Registration for the Black and Brown Male Youth Summit opens October 29th, please mark your calendars. Students and adult chaperones must both register. It is free. Registration fills up immediately. So please start having conversations and provoking interest in the male students you think should attend. We will need to know well in advance if you are planning to attend in order to arrange the buses. The actual date of Black and Brown Summit is Saturday, November 17th. 
  • Youth Philanthropy Board is looking for volunteers that are interested in public service. Sign up by October 14th if you want to be involved! Mentors, nominate a student that you feel would represent the school well for Tacoma. https://www.gtcf.org/joinypb/​​
  • Real World Design Club Meeting with Moffett and Blake in the FBL next Thursday, 10/11 after school. 
  • Those interested in Tech Club with Doss and Peter, meet in the CDL02 (Peter's room) today (Friday, 10/5) at lunch.
  • A&A Starts today! Please share the A&A lists with your mentees or see the posted alpha list on locations throughout the school.
