Every student is an individual with unique talents, learning styles and needs. Tacoma Public Schools offers highly capable services to K-12 to students who perform, or show the potential of performing, at high intellectual levels when compared with others of their age and experience. Highly capable children are present in all student groups, regardless of gender, disability, English language proficiency, economic status, ethnic or cultural background. There are approximately 600 K-12 students who receive Tacoma Public Schools Highly Capable services.
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. We are pleased to have your students back in the classroom and look forward to a great year of learning.
Changes to Highly Capable Services - As many of your are aware, the position of director of Highly Capable Services has been eliminated. Highly Capable Services is now under the direction of Julie Ray, who is a Director of Elementary Education. Julie has a background in overseeing Highly Capable programs.
Students in the SAIL classes have the opportunity to participate in projects that provide more depth to their learning. The Browns Point SAIL class recently wrote and produced a 90-second video for the Newberry Film Festival. Take a look at "The War that Saved my Life."
