Grant Center for the Expressive Arts

The Nest

Who:
The Nest team works with Grant students on the Autism Spectrum with an IEP.

What:
The Nest is made up of a team of specialists working to support the development and learning of your child. This room is used as a quiet area where students can settle down if they are getting too stimulated, work on assignments free of distractions found in their general education classroom, take a break from excess stimuli and/or learn support strategies to use in their classrooms and at home.

When:
The use of the Nest Room depends on the needs of each student.

Where:
We are located in Room 22, upstairs next to the dance studio.

Why:
Sometimes students on the Autism Spectrum need more behavioral support than other students. This program allows them a place to learn how to be successful, tools to assist them, and surrounds them with increased adult support that they may benefit from.

Please contact Samantha Doucette (sdoucet@tacoma.k12.wa.us, x5402) to schedule a time to stop by and see us. Thank you for sharing your child with us. Our hope is to support your child and your family as they grow and learn with us at Grant.
