Family Engagement

For many students, attending a two- or four-year college, university, or technical school is a crucial next step on their path to fulfilling their career and life dreams. Families can support their child's higher education goals by joining TPS for our annual College Tours for Families.

Tacoma Public Schools’ Community Partnership Office is organizing tours of eight outstanding local colleges. Each visit includes a customized tour and presentation from college staff on the admissions process, financial aid, scholarships, and college life unique to each school. These tours are designed for TPS students and families to learn together.

April tours

• Tacoma Community College – Thursday, April 25 – 6 - 7:30 p.m. 

• University of Washington, Tacoma – Saturday, April 27 – 10:15 a.m. - Noon

May tours

• Pacific Lutheran University – Thursday, May 2 – 6 -7:30 p.m.

• Evergreen College, Tacoma – Saturday, May 18 – 2 - 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers play an important role in student success. The TPS Partnership Office is gathering feedback from current and former volunteers on their experiences. This information will inform ways we can streamline and continuously improve our processes.

Feedback can be provided through a brief survey, which is open through April 12. Listening sessions also wrap up this week.

Listening sessions
Help us more fully understand your experiences as a volunteer by attending a listening session. All current and past volunteers are welcome.

• April 9: Manitou Park Elementary School, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. (in person, no registration needed)
• April 9: Virtual Listening Session, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. REGISTER HERE
• NEW DATE: April 11: Truman Middle School 4:30 -5:30 p.m. (in person, no registration needed)
