Resources for families

Several community partners have reached out to provide resources for our families. Please check back often. We will continue to update the list. If you would like to offer assistance to Tacoma families, please email our Community Partnership office at communitypartnership@tacoma.k12.wa.us.

​Childcare (check back for updates):

Providing full-day care is at the discretion of our partner organizations. The District is working with partners to establish care options for students and provide information to families.  

FREE meals for students

During strike days 12 schools from across the district will be serving breakfast and lunch to students. Meals will be available to ALL Tacoma students for FREE. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday

Parents, please note there is no access to emergency medications kept at school or nursing staff during this time. Parents of those students with food allergies or dietary restrictions please accompany your student and help them select appropriate food items.

School Athletics

  • HIGH SCHOOL: Although schools will be closed during the day, high school athletics programs will continue to operate. It is essential that we uphold our scheduled contests with our non-league and league members. Coaches and Athletic directors will be communicating schedules as they relate to practice and competition. Busses will only be available for transportation to and from games
  • MIDDLE SCHOOL: Athletics will be postponed until school starts.
  • ELEMENTARY: After-school sports will be postponed until school begins.

Activities and offers

  • REACH Center : up to 30 incoming sophomores, juniors, or seniors 
  • Career readiness workshops
  • Structured writing and reflection activities
  • Free time (bring a book!)
  • Lunch
  • Individual or group support with tutoring or other projects of interest to the students
  • College advising services

Located on the 1st floor of 714 S. 27th Street, and can offer these services from 9am until 4pm starting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 12th.

Interested parents/students should contact Desiree Alexander at dalexander@reachtacoma.orgWe will ask that parents wait to receive a confirmation email from Desiree before bringing their student to REACH.  Due to space limitations, we will only be able to host the first 30 students whose families we hear from.
