Grading & Report Cards

Showing evidence of student learning and growth.

All students are graded on their understanding of the Washington State Learning Standards. In Tacoma Public Schools, these learning standards are strategically prioritized to ensure all students receive equitable access to learning opportunities. These standards are what students are expected to know and do for each subject and grade level.

Grading is about academic learning. Grades do not reflect the following:

  • Absences or late-arrival
  • Student behavior or discipline

As a part of the learning process, all students in Tacoma Public Schools have the right to:

  • Be confused.
  • Make a mistake.
  • Speak, listen, and be heard.
  • Share ideas.
  • Revise their work.
