What do I do if I want my child to attend a school outside of the Tacoma School District?

1. We strongly encourage families to attend their neighborhood school. Research shows that strong neighborhood schools are an essential part of a vibrant and healthy community.

2. To attend school in a non-resident district, the resident district must first release the student to start the transfer process. Whether you are wishing to attend another school in another district or pursue a G.E.D. or some other path to high school completion, or seeking a renewal for a previously granted release, please complete a request through the Washington State Choice Transfer Request Portal (CTRP). When you have completed your application through the CTRP, your request will be sent to the Enrollment Services team for review.

3. If you wish to use a paper form, complete the Release to Attend Another District paper form. Return the form to the principal of your neighborhood school to obtain the principal's signature, and return the completed form to the Enrollment Services office via email enrollmentservices@tacoma.k12.wa.us or via fax at 253-571-1223 or at 601 South 8th Street, Room 220 .

Boundary Meeting Map.jpg Boundary Line Changes shift the home school for some students.

The decisions to move school boundaries was not made lightly. A team of parents and principals worked since September to redraw boundary lines between schools in West Tacoma to accommodate the opening of Wainwright Intermediate School, and their recommendations have been approved.

Parents/Guardians of students who are impacted by boundary changes will receive letters with detailed information.
