News from Mrs. Spargo:

The students at Edison have been very busy in the music department.
Here's what's happening in the music world at Edison:
  • Congratulations are in order for the superb Holiday Concert put on by our second and third grade students! These kids rocked the house with their enthusiastic singing, dancing, and acting!!
  • Our kindergarten and first grade classes will be starting the music to their upcoming musical called, "Hats!" This is sure to be a performance you will NOT want to miss! More information will be coming soon.
  • Our third grade students have begun the process of learning to play an instrument called the recorder. They are having a blast strengthening their music reading skills while learning this fun instument.
  • On February 6. 2015, the fourth grade students will be going on a field trip to hear a performance provided by the Tacoma Youth Symphony. What a great opportunity for these students to experience a live orchestral performance.
  • In April, our fifth grade classes will be attending an interactive concert called "The Orchestra Sings," sponsored by the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra. Students will have the opportunity to sing, play the recorder, use movement, analyze musical structures, explore instruments, and develop their musical imagination as they explore orchestral music

News from Mrs. Mitchell-Matson 

  • All PE classes will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart sponsored by the American Heart Association.
  • Letters will be sent home in February explaining Jump Rope for Heart. It will be a fun time to learn about cardio exercise and jump rope.

News from Mrs. Nettle:

All students have been working to improve their reading skills and it's working. Star Reading test scores are going up! The more you read, the smarter you get!
  • Students in the first and second grades are starting to chose books at their just right reading levels during checkout times in library classes. This will make practice reading so much more fun.
  • Third and fourth graders have been working with non-fiction books to learn about text features that make finding information easy.
  • Fifth graders have been learning to use the Teacher and Student Collaboration Site. Students can access assignments from school and home. They will turn in their assignments electronically for the first time in February!!
  • Get ready! March 2 is Dr. Seuss's birthday. It will be here before you know it. Look for more information about Read for America day coming soon.
  • Mark your calendars for our next Book Fair from March 9 through March 13!
