This four-day summer program is designed to help incoming kindergarten students feel confident and ready for success in school. Students have a chance to become familiar with their school and classroom and get to know their classmates and teacher before school officially starts.
For all incoming kindergarten students
Monday, Aug, 23 to Thursday, Aug. 26, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students are automatically enrolled for Jump Start when they enroll for kindergarten. If your student is unable to attend, please contact Summer Learning Office via email email@example.com. District transportation is not provided to kindergarten Jump Start.
Camp Discovery is a Title I/LAP summer learning program for incoming 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Eligible students will participate in project based learning and enrichment activities and experiences. Students are currently being identified by their schools for recommendation for this program and registration. Camp Discovery will return to in-person learning.
Who: Incoming 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students performing at or below grade level. Students/Families are being recommended by Title I/LAP staff. If you have questions about whether your student qualifies, please contact your student’s school counselor.
When: Monday June 28th – Wednesday July 28th. No Program on Monday July 5th. Program will run Monday – Thursday from 8:30am – 1:00pm.
Where: Camp Discovery will be held at the following elementary sites: Northeast Tacoma, Reed, Stafford, Franklin, Lyon, Stanley, Manitou, Downing, and Blix. Transportation will be available for pick up and drop off from all elementary schools. Students will attend Camp Discovery at the site their school is designated.

Tacoma Schools currently serves over 40 different language groups at more than 30 program schools. Our English Language Learners program helps students with limited English skills live successfully in an English-speaking culture and in a multilingual, multicultural world.
Schools will identify and invite students to participate.
Tacoma's Indian Education program helps us meet the unique culturally-related academic needs of American Indians and Alaskan Natives (AI/AN) students. Funded through Title VII grants, the Indian Education K-5 summer program curriculum will include Math Expressions, cultural activities, and events.
Serving approximately 25 students in elementary schools, grades 1-5.
