Nell Hoyt Day School

At the Nell Hoyt Day School, we provide a safe and supportive environment where students with complex social-emotional needs can learn, grow and thrive.

Nell Hoyt will serve students from kindergarten through 8th grade who have emotional or behavioral challenges that can’t be adequately addressed in their neighborhood school.

In coordination with their individualized education program (IEP), students will attend Nell Hoyt on a short-term basis, with the goal of developing the skills that allow them to return to their neighborhood school.

By providing this service directly to our students, Tacoma Public Schools invests in our ability to ensure students get the environment they need to grow.

This expansion of services reflects our dedication to providing high-quality, accessible education options for families in our region. We are pleased to provide this service in the warmth and comfort of a school building, with access to calm outdoor spaces.

The program will operate from the newly updated Nell Hoyt location, at 2708 N. Union in Tacoma, with four large classrooms supporting students’ individual needs. It will use a multi-disciplinary approach, with expertise from special education teachers, behavior technicians, social workers, counselors, and community mental health partners.
