ABOUT THE PROJECT         

IDEA High School, built in 1912 as Park Elementary to serve students in grades K-5, IDEA now serves high school students from across the school district who want to study industrial design, engineering and art. Lessons focus on innovative design and prototyping.
 

As part of district’s efforts to both right-size and improve its facilities for students and the community, Tacoma Public Schools plans to relocate the bond-supported rebuild of IDEA High School at the former Gault Middle School site (seen below) and sell the current Park Avenue location (seen above).

While their school is under construction, IDEA students will remain in their current school building.

This project is funded by the $650 million school construction bond voters passed in 2024.

PROJECT STATUS          

Updates will be posted here as they become available.

Expected opening: Fall 2028
Design-build contractor: Kiewit & McGranahan/PBK (Selected in February 2026)
