When children in Tacoma Public Schools require full-time access to nursing support at school, this support may look like:
- Independent management of the child’s condition (as determined by family, provider orders, and the school nurse), or
- Parent designated adult support (PDA) for students with diabetes/ seizure diagnosis only, or
- Placement in one of the 10 TPS elementary schools that have access to full-time nursing (also called “regional sites”) *
- School teams (504 or IEP) help families determine the best option for each child. Each child is assessed individually, and a plan is developed to support their specific needs.
*In this transition, transportation will be provided to the child, and their siblings can transfer with them.
