Support for Refugee Students and Families
Tacoma Public Schools continues to support newly arrived refugee students and families.
In partnership with the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC), we address students' academic, social, and emotional needs through supplemental English Language Development, tutoring and mentorship, and support for college and career readiness. Additionally, we provide training for staff and parents to enhance their ability to support refugee students effectively.
Program Offerings
For Students:
- Supplemental instruction and onsite tutorial support
- College and career readiness workshops for high school students
- Cultural and affinity clubs
- Summer learning and credit retrieval opportunities
For Families:
- Family orientation sessions
- School navigation training
- Digital literacy classes
- U.S. cultural awareness workshops
For School Staff:
- Professional learning opportunities to strengthen support for refugee students and families
Our goal is to provide the necessary resources and support to help refugee students, and their families successfully navigate their new educational and community environments.
