Program Description

The Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification Program, sponsored by Franciscan Health, is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as frontline public health professionals. This program prepares participants to connect communities with healthcare resources, promote wellness, and address social determinants of health. The content is provided online through Moorhouse School of Medicine and in-person opportunities are provided by Tacoma Public Schools to connect students to career opportunities, practice skills learned online and extend their on-line learning.

Program Highlights:

Summer 2025 Program Details

  • Application deadline: May 18 is the priority deadline. Applications received after the deadline may be considered if there is space.
  • Program dates: June 25 - July 17 (no class on July 3, 4 or 11). Program times are between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Meeting location: Hunt Middle School
  • Notification of selected applicants: Early June
  • Certification(s) offered: Community Health Worker completion certificate, CPR/First Aid/AED, and Financial Literacy through EverFi
  • Approximate hours to complete: 100
  • Total spots available: 20
  • Credits toward graduation: 0.5 CTE Credits
