Our Jobs 253 employment program provides Tacoma high school students with:
- 75 hours of job training and experience
- High school credit
- An academic completion bonus
- Basic work readiness
- Resume/interview skills
- Increased self-confidence and personal growth
Jobs 253 offers TPS sophomores and juniors the opportunity to earn high school credit for graduation while gaining meaningful work experience through 75 hours of job training and experience. The City of Tacoma partners in funding the up to $1,000 stipend students receive when they fulfill their job requirements.
Students can earn a .5 CTE elective course for completing a self-directed Next Move Intro Course which develops professionalism skills essential to success in the workplace.

Jobs 253 Selection Criteria
- Benefits your school/community/neighborhood and/or addresses some specific community need (Ask yourself, when I do this project, who am I helping?)
- Develops meaningful leadership skills in students
- Is approved by neighbors, organizations and others impacted by your project
- Can be completed safely with materials/supplies available to student (including masks or other personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Is deemed safe by supervising parent/guardian, school staff, organizational staff
