Grade Level Field Trips

Field trips extend learning beyond the classroom through hands-on, curriculum-aligned experiences. They expose students to new environments and cultures, support social and emotional growth, inspire curiosity, and build practical skills—all with careful planning and supervision for safety and success.

All students in kindergarten through eighth grade participate in grade-level field trips. Funding for these fields trips is thanks to the voter-approved initiative Tacoma Creates and the Tacoma Education Dream Fund.

What do a jellyfish, a 1925 Ford Model T and an opera singer have in common?  They are all part of grade-level field trips, taking students into the community for hands-on experiences.

All students in grades kindergarten through eighth participate in grade-level field trips. Much of the funding is thanks to the voter-approved initiative Tacoma Creates.

“In the past, some schools were able to take field trips, some were not, and it was typically based on PTA funding,” said Angie Neville, Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Tacoma Public Schools. “Having funding from Tacoma Creates brings so much equity.”
