World Language
In 2017, a team of Tacoma World Language (WL) educators prioritized the Washington State Learning Standards for World Languages. As a result of the completed prioritization process, WL educators convened again to critically examine the existing resources for Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish curriculum. A formal Request for Proposal (RFP) to vendors was issued January 2018 and a thorough analysis of the results took place for (3) months. Based on the recommendation of a team of WL educators, only two languages moved forward for formal adoptions: Chinese and Japanese. The remaining three languages did not move forward with a formal adoption due to vendor materials not scoring high enough to move forward.
In June 2018, a recommendation was made to the Superintendent and the Board of Directors approved the adoption of Cheng & Tsui for Chinese and Japanese languages.
