Surveys

Survey requests are accepted throughout the year. Proposed surveys must align with at least one of the TPS benchmarks and provide a description of how the results can inform student learning, teacher instruction, and/or district improvements.

Please be aware that for the 2022-2023 school year, approval of survey requests submitted by individuals and entities external to TPS will be very limited

Survey Review Criteria

Survey Process

  • Survey requests are accepted throughout the year
  • Submit a survey request form and email any questions  to ResearchRequests@Tacoma.k12.wa.us 
  • Additional information may be requested
  • Allow up to 10 business days for review
  • If approved, Requester reviews a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) & Data Sharing Agreement (DSA), if applicable, that is submitted internally to initiate a secondary district-level review process
  • After survey completion, submit an electronic copy of survey results

Voluntary Participation & Consent

Participation in surveys is voluntary. Schools, principals, teachers, parents and students who do not wish to participate have a right to refusal. Pressure shall not be applied to promote participation.

Tacoma Public Schools complies with all state and federal regulations regarding the release of confidential student or staff data. Many, but not all, of the TPS legal guidelines for data release procedures are based upon the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
