Goal 2: Partnerships
We will fully engage our parents, community and staff in the education of our children.
To determine the district’s progress toward achieving the goal of fully engaging with our parents, community and staff we use the following benchmarks:
The number of registered volunteers (family and community members) in schools.
The number of community-based and youth-based organizations in formal partnerships with schools and/or the school district.
The percentage of responses from students and family members at each level of the climate survey regarding diversity.
The percentage of responses from students and staff members and the number of responses from family members at each level of the climate survey regarding communication.
The percentage of responses staff members and the number of responses from family members at each level of the climate survey regarding sustained family and community engagement.
The number family members participating in the climate survey.
PARTNERSHIP STORIES FROM OUR SCHOOLS
A recent allocation of $150,000 by the district is aimed at helping more families gain that access. The Foundation for Tacoma Students will continue to manage requests and work directly with families to provide internet installation.
Tacoma Public Schools is still making preparations to follow Gov. Jay Inslee's order, which he invoked under his emergency powers, to provide child care to the children of healthcare workers and first responders.
Sam Howard, the Office Coordinator at Oakland High School, will never forget Halloween day 2019. A female student came into the office, confiding that she was six months pregnant and worried something might be wrong.
Hidden behind the kitchen loading zone and a concrete wall at Meeker Middle School, is a corner bursting with life. Tomatoes ripen in the sun. Raised garden beds host pumpkins and lemon cucumber, and the concrete wall provide cover for shading-loving vegetables.
