Consistent with Washington law, the District shall observe the following school holidays and shall not operate on these days: Sunday; the first day of January (New Year’s Day); the third Monday of January (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day); the third Monday in February (Presidents’ Day); the last Monday in May (Memorial Day); the fourth day of July (Independence Day); the first Monday in September (Labor Day); the eleventh day of November (Veterans Day), the fourth Thursday in November (Thanksgiving Day); the day immediately following Thanksgiving
Day; the twenty-fifth day of December (Christmas Day).

In addition to the above school holidays, the following shall also be considered to be District paid holidays unless otherwise determined by an applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement: the Wednesday immediately before Thanksgiving Day, the day before Christmas/Christmas Eve (December 24), and the day before New Year’s Day/New Year’s Eve (December 31).

The Superintendent may also annually identify certain days as non-work/non-paid days if doing so is necessary to balance the work calendar of exempt employees and Tacoma Principals Association represented staff to reflect that their work year consists of 260 paid working days.
