First and second readings
Policies in review are posted here simultaneously with a first reading by the School Board. You're invited to review these policies and provide feedback in a timely manner. We ask that feedback be given before noon on the Tuesday preceding a Board business meeting. This will allow time for the Board and Legal Department to review and consider before the second reading.

Policy 3416 - Medication at School
Policy 3416 has been updated to align with the Washington State Schools Directors' Association's (WSSDA) model policy. Updates include delegation of one-step nasal sprays and providing clarification on who can delegate in the schools. This aligns with House Bill 1085 and provides additional detail for best practices in medication administration in school.
Policy 3418 - Emergency Treatment
Policy 3418 has been updated to include specifically outlined staff response depending on Emergency Medical Support (EMS) outcomes - Release vs Transport vs Release of Responsibility (ROR) vs Against Medical Advice (AMA). In this effort to update the policy guidelines, the District partnered with Tacoma Fire/EMS to outline the role of school staff.

Policy 2146 - Recess
Policy 2146 was consistent with the requirements of RCWs 28A.230.295 and 28A.210.368. The updates address minimum recess time requirements, discourages with the withholding for punitive reasons, and clarifies expectations for when and where recess should occur.
NEW Policy - Language Access 4218
Policy 4218 documents family-centered solutions with specially designated funding. The policy language stipulates a number of changes for districts and schools, including increased family need identification, professional training, data collection, and standardized expectations. The policy also identifies a Language Access Coordinator position and outlines expectations for this position.
