Thursdays are exciting days for Debbie Lindsay’s class. Since December, this group of young adults puts on their coats, lines up and heads into the world, learning to take public transportation to a different Tacoma location each week.
Lindsay teaches in the Community Based Transition program, where recent high school graduates who received special education services can continue their public education until they are 21 years old. Called “interns,” these young adults are working toward independence with daily living tasks, which can look like anything from picking out their own clothes each day to applying for and maintaining a job.
