ParentVUE available to all TPS families

ParentVUE helps streamline where families can find school-related information, reducing the number of applications, websites and passwords needed.   

Starting Sept. 3, when you log into ParentVUE, you will be prompted to update and verify your contact information, your child's health history, and other important information.

During the school year, you can use ParentVUE to: 

• View attendance, schedules and assignments
• Report absences 
• Monitor student grades, academic progress 
• Access MySchoolBucks and annual student forms
• Update your contact information

TPS parents/guardians who have not yet created a ParentVUE account will receive an email directly from Synergy with an activation link. 

Bookmark your school's website

• Each school's website is a hub of information including a staff directory, upcoming events, and opportunities. Find your school's website.
• Translate any page into your preferred language by selecting it from the drop-down menu at the bottom right-side of your screen on mobile or desktop.

Student Schedules Available in StudentVUE & ParentVUE

Student schedules are available for most schools. Students and families can access schedules in StudentVUE and ParentVUE.

The Class Schedule page lists the period, course title, room name and the teacher for each class. Middle and high school schedule information shows all courses the student takes in the semester. Elementary schedule information typically displays only one course in the class schedule, labeled with the student's grade. To access your schedule in ParentVUE:

• Click "Class Schedule" in the Navigation bar.
• Click the Term (for example, Day, Trimester 1, Semester 1) to view a different schedule.

Plan for after-school activities

Students can participate in after-school programs through the Club B program for middle schoolers and Beyond the Bell for elementary students.

What’s on the menu?

Breakfast and lunch are offered at no cost to Tacoma Public Schools students all year, regardless of income or eligibility status.

Download the MySchoolMenus app (Google users  / Apple users) or check your school’s website closer to the first day of school to have your school’s breakfast and lunch menus at your fingertips.

Good to know:

• Middle and high school students will have a variety of options daily (hot meals, sandwiches, fresh fruits and veggies).
• Milk, fruits and veggies are available to go with any food your child brings in.
• You can filter for allergens and dietary preferences on the MySchoolMenus website and app. 
• You can use MySchoolBucks to add money to your child's meal account for additional food.

Help keep students healthy at school

Families can help keep students stay healthy at school by following these steps:

• Update your health history 
• Ensure your child is fully vaccinated and share a record of those vaccinations that's verified by a health care provider. View Vaccination Requirements
• Provide updated orders and medications for any prescribed or over-the-counter medications that must be taken at school. Download medical orders form.
• If your child has a life-threatening health condition requiring treatment or medications at school, you must have these items turned in to your school nurse by the first day of school:
  • Medication and/or treatment orders
  • Medications and supplies to carry out those orders

You must also work with your school nurse to create a health care plan by the first day.

Examples of life-threatening health conditions include anaphylaxis, adrenal insufficiency, seizures, and some diagnoses of asthma, depending on severity. If you’re not sure whether your child’s condition is left threatening, please consult your primary care provider. Find and contact your school nurse.

Free menstrual hygiene products available at school

Menstrual hygiene products are available at no cost in schools that serve students in grades 3-12.

Students in grades 6-12 have access to free menstrual products (sanitary napkins, tampons, or similar items) in restrooms designated as female and gender neutral. If a secondary school doesn’t have gender-neutral bathrooms, then products will be available in the health room or at least one bathroom accessible to males.

Students in grades 3-5 can get them in in their school’s health room or other location determined by their school’s principal.

Mental health resources available to students 

Our schools have skilled counselors who can help with academic, career and social-emotional guidance. If your child needs support beyond what a counselor can offer, TPS also has exceptional mental health partners who provide services at schools. If your child plans to take the bus to school, please download our free transportation app, My Ride K-12. It allows parents/guardians and students to access their secure data for bus stop location, route and pickup times.

Using My Ride K-12

• Download the app from via Google or Apple App Store.
• Search for Tacoma Public Schools and register for an account. After you confirm your email, log in again and add/link your children. You will need to know their student ID. 

Your child’s bus route will be available the first week of September. Please double-check the day before school as the bus route may change slightly.

Get help with TPS technology

Please ensure your child's district laptop is updated, charged and ready to bring on the first day of school by plugging it in, connecting to Wi-Fi, and leaving it on overnight. 

Good to know:

• To exchange a damaged laptop or get a replacement for a missing one, contact your school’s office. 
• You can buy replacement charging cords using MySchoolBucks via ParentVUE, or the Compass Family App. 
• If your child left their laptop at school over the summer, they can retrieve it from the school. 
• New students will be provided with a laptop, a charging cord and help to set up their school account when school begins.

If you see something, say something

The No. 1 way to prevent school violence is to report it. Help serve as the eyes and ears of safety, if you see something call 911 first, then notify your school.

Staff, students, families, and the community all have a role to play in keeping our schools safe. As a district, we continue to invest in safety through upgraded cameras, communications systems, and our security team. Here are a few reminders on other ways to help keep schools safe. 

Bullying is not tolerated 

• Maintaining a positive and safe environment for all students is essential.
• Bullying, harassment, or intimidation can take many forms, including online posts, and verbal or physical acts.  

Schools are weapon-free, drug-free, tobacco-free, and alcohol-free zones 

• Any dangerous weapon, including firearms, knives, tasers, and look-a-like weapons are not allowed at school. 
• Illegal drugs and tobacco products, including vapes or e-cigarettes are not allowed at school. 

Threatening a school is a crime 

• Any threat to a school, student, or staff member is taken seriously. This includes threats on social media. TPS partners with local law enforcement to investigate any threat. 
• If you see something, say something. We encourage everyone in our community who sees or hears a threat to call 911 and notify the school.  

It’s important that we partner with families to ensure all students feel safe and understand how their actions or the actions of others can impact us all. Actions that create an unsafe environment can have big consequences for the student(s) involved. This includes missing school, restricting participation in athletics or activities, or even possible criminal charges.
