Progress and safety at new Hunt
Hunt site superintendent Jim King Talik

The days start with health check-ins for construction crew members and end with a little more progress on every corner of the new Hunt Middle School site.

To comply with state safety requirements related to COVID-19, crew members - and anyone else who needs to go to the construction site - get a temperature check at the front gate and answer a series of questions about their health before they're allowed on site.

Once they start work, crew members wear a mask, gloves and goggles, and do their job with as much distance between each other as possible.

The building's footings are almost complete. Plumbing and electrical work is progressing. Concrete floor slabs come next.

The project is about 10 percent complete. When it opens in fall 2021, the two-story comprehensive middle school will help alleviate crowding at other schools in the district. Hunt will feature turf fields for district and community use.

The round building - or the mothership, as it's known around the neighborhood - stays put.
