Four things to know about Fawcett's construction plans

1. Plans for Fawcett

The existing Fawcett will be demolished this fall, with construction of the new school slated from 2022 to 2023. Staff and students will use the former McKinley campus for the next two school years, during construction of their new school.

McKinley is located at 3702 East McKinley Avenue. Transportation will be provided for students living in the current Fawcett boundary.

2. We're moving!

Boxes have arrived, and staff continue to pack their spaces in preparation for their move to the former McKinley Elementary School. Plans to move to McKinley are on schedule for the end of the school year.

3. Geoengineers will perform site boring testing next week at Fawcett

Next week, you may notice heavy equipment on site as workers perform site boring testing of the soil at Fawcett. Boring involves the drilling of holes into the ground to learn about the physical properties of the soil and rocks.

4. Design Advisory Committee met with design-build team

Last month, Fawcett staff toured Boze Elementary School with the Hensel Phelps and BLRB Architects design-build team to gather ideas for their new school. The Fawcett team chose their project’s Design Advisory Committee (DAC) and had their first meeting in April. The DAC consists of staff, teachers, parents and community members.

Fawcett staff recently met with architects at BLRB to discuss layout design ideas for the new school.

Next week, the DAC will meet virtually in a three-hour collaborative workshop to view those layout design ideas and combine creative efforts for the new Fawcett school. The month of May will wrap up the team's pre-design phase and start schematic design phase where the team can refine the layout details and ideas.
