Demolition of the old Boys & Girls Club building

Korsmo Construction, the general contractor for the new Downing Elementary School, continues the abatement and demolition of the Boys & Girls Club building, along with work preparing for demolition of the fields and grounds at Downing.

The crew will work from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For safety, they will limit construction traffic during the beginning and end of the school day. Summer hours may occasionally extend to 5:30 p.m.

ICYMI: Boys & Girls Club Gonyea Branch partnership

The Tacoma School Board approved the purchase of the D.A. Gonyea Branch of the Boys & Girls Club site next to Downing.
When construction is complete, and the school opens, the intent is to reopen the Boys and Girls Club programs at this location. It will have dedicated program spaces, including a teen center and access to shared spaces like the gymnasium and kitchen in the new facility.

The vision is to create environments where students are continuously challenged, supported and engaged in a way that is safe and healthy—before, during and after school.
