Whether you’re interested in advanced programs, International Baccalaureate, arts, athletics, going to school within Point Defiance Park, or all of the above, kids living within the boundaries of Tacoma Public Schools have choices. Students have the option to attend their neighborhood school or apply to attend another TPS school.
This year, all TPS schools are hosting virtual information nights for prospective students and their families to meet school leaders and staff, explore the unique programs and activities each school has to offer, see the school culture, and learn more about the choice enrollment process and timeline.
Choice enrollment is choosing a school other than your neighborhood school. We always recommend families start by checking out their neighborhood school. But sometimes your neighborhood school isn't the best fit for your student or your family. If this is the case, you can apply to attend another school.
Choice applications for grades 1-12 are due by Jan. 21, 2022 and applications for students entering kindergarten are due by Mar. 18, 2022. Applications are approved based on school capacity and program availability. Families must provide transportation to and from school and students must reside within Tacoma Public School boundaries.
For students transitioning into middle school or high school in the 2022-2023 school year and choosing their neighborhood school, no application is needed. Information nights are still a great opportunity to learn more about the school you’ll attend next year.
High school and middle school information nights will take place in November and December. Elementary information nights will take place in January and February of 2022. Dates and details will be shared later in the year.
