Free meals for students in 2021-22 school year; more meal updates

All TPS students will receive free breakfasts and lunches in the 2021-22 school year, according to a new announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Now, our district’s Nutrition Services team is making plans for next year. We will share details about next year’s meal offerings for in-person and Tacoma Online students as soon as we develop them.

Apply for free and reduced-price meals
While all students are receiving free meals due to the pandemic, it’s still important for families to apply for free or reduced-price meals for this school year if they haven’t already. There are many benefits associated with receiving free or reduced-price meals, including automatically qualifying to receive retroactive benefits, including a P-EBT card with funds to buy groceries. Submit your application at

Pandemic-EBT grocery benefit cards
Pandemic EBT cards providing grocery benefits for the current school year are still being mailed. The last batch of cards was mailed April 27 and could take 7 to 10 days to arrive. If you have not received your card by mid-May, call the P-EBT Contact Center at 833-518-0282.

If the P-EBT Contact Center does not have you on the list and you believe you are eligible, contact our Nutrition Services representative Patsy Neas at or 253-571-3378. If the address the P-EBT Contact Center has for you is wrong, please contact your school office and make sure your address is updated in our district eSchool Plus system. Once the address is corrected, a new card will be sent as part of the next round of benefits and the old card will be canceled. Grocery benefits will be backdated to September 2020.

Please note that P-EBT benefits have been extended so qualifying families will now also get grocery benefits covering the upcoming summer months.
