“Tacoma is College Bound,” a free event to sign up eligible Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) seventh, eighth and ninth graders for the College Bound Scholarship, will be held on Saturday, March 7, 8:30–11 a.m., at Tacoma Community College (TCC), 6501 S. 19
th St., Tacoma, WA. This is the only year that ninth graders can apply for the College Bound Scholarship.
The College Bound Scholarship would give eligible students a chance to attend college and have the state of Washington pay for tuition at a public or private university, community college or technical college for up to four years. This scholarship program provides hope and incentive for students and families who otherwise might not consider college as an option because of its cost.
Norm Rice, former mayor of Seattle, will serve as keynote speaker, and TPS staff members, translators and volunteers will be available to help families with the application process. Families can also sign up online at
www.hecb.wa.gov/collegebound.
“Tacoma is College Bound” is sponsored by the Tacoma Public Schools, Metropolitan Development Council, Tacoma Community College, Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) and College Success Foundation.
