Tacoma Public Schools needs parents, community members, students, district administrators, counselors, teachers and classified employees who want to serve on an advisory committee on Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB.)
The district has reactivated the dormant committee under new Director of Student Life Jennifer Kubista.
This committee will help update district policies and regulations on HIB, plan support for students and explore training programs for students and staff members.
“Our goal is to develop a positive climate, culture and learning environment in all of our schools,” Kubista said. “The committee’s work is integral to accomplishing that goal.”
The committee will make recommendations to the superintendent and school board.
The committee will have at least 20 members. The actual number depends on the number of applications received. The application for the HIB committee is on the district Athletics and Activities Web site, as well as directions for completing and submitting the form. Applications are due Jan. 11.
Kubista anticipates the ongoing committee will meet weekly for the first eight to 12 weeks, then monthly thereafter. Meetings will last approximately two hours; the times and dates are yet to be determined. Committee members will be encouraged to commit their time through the 2011-2012 school year.
Kubista’s new Department of Student Life oversees HIB programs, athletics and activities.
