At the start of the 2010-2011 school year, parents, guardians, students and community members will be able to follow and become of fan of the district’s Twitter and Facebook social networking sites and receive up-to-the-minute news and information posted by the district. The district’s Public Information Office (PIO) uses a variety of communication tools to post news about district headlines, updates, events and important updates.
“Clearly, many people in the community are connected to each other, local organizations and important causes through Facebook and Twitter,” said Dan Voelpel, the district’s public information director. “While we post a wealth of information on district’s Web site, sending ‘Tweets’ and putting up Facebook posts will keep us in better touch with the folks who want to stay in-the-know on district activities and news.”
Those interested in following the district on Twitter and Facebook can visit the district’s Facebook fan page at Tacoma Public Schools or receive alerts at #tacomaschools through Twitter.
