This year, 30 students from the Tacoma Public Schools will be awarded a varsity letter in community service by United Way of Pierce County on May 19, from 7–8:30 p.m., at a dessert recognition ceremony at the Puyallup Fairgrounds Pavilion. These students totaled more than 7,200 hours of service since April 1, 2008. This promises to be a special night as United Way will award a record number of varsity letters to Pierce County high school students. Governor Christine Gregoire is scheduled to attend the event which is by invitation only.
