Supplemental educational services fairs at four Tacoma middle schools

Families whose children attend McIlvaigh, Gault, Jason Lee or Gray middle schools are encouraged to attend a supplemental educational services (SES) fair at their child’s school Oct. 14–15 and 21–22.

These fairs are an opportunity for families to meet potential SES providers who may provide free help to eligible students in reading, language arts and/or mathematics. Students are eligible for these services if they attend one of these middle schools and are eligible for free and reduced lunch.

McIlvaigh, Gault, Jason Lee and Gray middle schools are still in school improvement as determined by the federal No Child Left Behind Act, and will offer supplemental educational services to eligible students as an approved intervention to help students.

What are the supplemental education services?
Supplemental educational services (SES) refer to extra tutoring help provided to students in reading, language arts and/or mathematics. This extra help can be provided before or after school, on weekends, during intercessions or during the summer, and is at no cost to the family.

SES providers are approved by the Title I department at the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. These providers may be public or private school entities, public or private institutions of higher education, for-profit or non-profit organizations or faith-based organizations. Organizations that provide distance learning technology are also eligible.

Please contact the district’s Title I department at 253.571.1049 for additional information.
