Sheridan second grader receives Red Cross Lifesaver Award

The American Red Cross Mt. Rainier Chapter recently presented Karlie Reyes, age 7, in Susan McKenzie’s second-grade class at Sheridan Elementary School with its Lifesaver Award for helping save her grandmother’s life last year.

Her grandmother, Deanne Sullivan, had a stroke while driving a golf cart with her grandchildren in their neighborhood. “While a nearby neighbor came out and called 911, Karlie had the maturity and knowledge to relay her grandmother’s medical condition to the paramedics,” said Karen Kim, media and community relations manager for the Mt. Rainier Chapter. “During this stressful and chaotic time, she also had the presence to take care of her little brother and keep him calm.”
