Stafford teacher wins STAR 101.5 grand prize

Stafford Elementary School teacher Kelly Granlund received a $5,000 tuition credit from City University as STAR 101.5’s grand winner in the Teacher of the Week contest. STAR 101.5 honored Granlund at a surprise school assembly in June that featured Kelly Jennings, City University of Seattle spokesperson and Seattle Seahawks cornerback. She also received a $250 Staples gift certificate for school supplies from City University.

With help from his mother, Stafford student Anthony Bragg nominated Granlund, his fourth-grade teacher, for the Teacher of the Week Award. Curt Kruse presented her with the Teacher of the Week award in her classroom.

STAR 101.5 chose 12 teachers for the award and one grand prize winner from the 12 weekly winners. Anthony’s mother said that Granlund was “one of the most caring, thoughtful, supportive teachers I know. She has taught both my kids and all the students love her. She actually cares about what happens to her students and she wants to see them achieve greatness. She is what being a teacher really means.”

Curt Kruse and Corine McKenzie from STAR 101.5 assisted with the grand prize presentation.
