Red Cross seeks Real Heroes nominations

If you or any of your staff know of any stories that would make great nominations for the Red Cross local Real Hero awards, please forward them to Karen M. Kim, media and community relations manager for the Red Cross, before Dec. 12. Please contact Kim at 253.377.2548 for more information.

Throughout the South Puget Sound, ordinary people perform extraordinary acts of courage and selflessness that save lives. The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter needs your help to identify and honor these local heroes from our community at the annual Real Heroes awards breakfast. More than 500 community and civic leaders including members of the local businesses attend this annual community celebration and fundraiser for the Mount Rainier Chapter.

Do you know a hero? Your Real Hero nominee may be a friend or family member, a neighbor, a firefighter, a member of the military or a police officer. The nominee may be a professionally trained life saver or simply a Good Samaritan. Heroes must either live or work in the community; the heroic action may have taken place outside our community (example: A local resident who saved a life while on vacation in Oregon). The heroic act must have occurred within the last year, but the Real Heroes Selection Committee may make exception especially for military service members who may have been deployed or in other special circumstances.

Nominations are being accepted in the following categories: 911 Dispatch, Animal Rescue, Fire Safety, Youth Humanitarian, Adult Humanitarian, Law Enforcement, Medical Rescue, Military, Spirit of the Red Cross, Wilderness Rescue and Workplace Safety.

An annual community celebration, the American Red Cross Real Heroes Breakfast honors local heroes for using their First Aid, CPR, AED training and other actions to save lives. It is the signature fundraising event for the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter which serves Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties. Proceeds from the Real Heroes Breakfast will benefit local Red Cross disaster relief and emergency services.
