Pace to serve as interim assistant superintendent

Toni Pace will serve as the interim assistant superintendent of K-12 support beginning immediately, Deputy Superintendent Carla Santorno announced today.

Pace takes over for Dr. Rosanne Fulton, who resigned Tuesday for a school administrative position in Aurora, Colo., where her family lives.

Santorno said the application process to find a permanent replacement for Fulton will begin in early 2012.

Pace has worked for Tacoma Public Schools for three years – most recently as director of high schools, supervising principals at all Tacoma high schools. Santorno has not yet decided how to fill that position on an interim basis.

Pace previously supervised middle and high school principals until the district split that job into two positions last year. Pace graduated from Willamette University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. She earned her Master of Arts (Teaching English) from the University of Oregon in 1986, her Principal’s Certificate from Seattle Pacific University in 1996 and her Superintendent’s Certificate from SPU in 1999.

Pace began her professional career as a high school English teacher in Oregon in 1976, then moved to the Kent and Highline school districts where she promoted from instructor into progressively higher leadership roles, finally as principal at Mount Rainier High School. She came to Tacoma Public Schools in 2008.

In her new role, Pace will continue to guide all district curriculum, teaching and learning initiatives, including an emphasis on math and literacy achievement.
