Ninth-grade optional WASL testing canceled

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has canceled the option for ninth graders to participate in the spring 2009 Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL), in an effort to save $500,000.

Ninth graders who have already registered to take the math, reading and/or writing WASL tests this spring will now take the new High School Proficiency Exam next school year. This decision impacts more than 1,200 district ninth graders.

Spring WASL testing for grades 3–8 and 10–12 are not affected.

If you have comments or questions regarding the OSPI decision, you may contact OSPI at 360.725.6348.

Please contact your child’s school if you have questions about your child’s educational program or testing schedule.
