Jason Lee students paint undersea mural

Art on the Ave brought many artists and vendors to Sixth Avenue July 11. Most signs of the event are no longer evident. However, the art work of several Jason Lee Middle School students remains. It’s not exactly portable: it’s on the side of the Crown Bar—across the street from the permanent mural Jason Lee students did a few years ago on Six Olives’ wall at 2708 Sixth Ave. Art teacher Catherine Stegeman led that group of art students also.

This mural was a community project, too. Charlie McManus, owner of the Primo Grill, funded the mural project and provided lunch for the students. Chelsea O’Sullivan is the artist who designed the mural with six underwater creatures that the students painted. Jacqueline Plattner coordinated the project.
