Tacoma Public Schools Superintendent Art Jarvis will be one of five panelists Friday, March 5, when the League of Women Voters of Tacoma-Pierce County presents a forum “Why do we pay taxes?”
The other panelists include:
- University of Washington-Tacoma Chancellor Patricia Spakes
- The News Tribune Business Columnist Bill Virgin
- Catholic Community Services Agency Director for CSS Southwest Denny Hunthausen
- Tahoma Audubon Executive Director Bryan Flint
The forum will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Lyceum Hall at The Evergreen State College, Tacoma campus, 1210 Sixth Ave. Refreshments will be served. Parking is free.
The non-partisan panel will discuss such questions as:

What if we didn’t pay taxes?

What do taxes actually buy?

How can tax money be used more efficiently?

How are state and local programs affected by tax revenues?
Dan Voelpel, school district director of Public Information, will serve as panel moderator.
