Next school year, Geiger Elementary School, 621 S. Jackson Ave., will become the second district school to offer the Montessori classes. Geiger will use Montessori instruction in its full-day tuition-based preschool, kindergarten and first and second grades. The school will add one grade per year until all grades are using Montessori instruction. There will be no tuition costs for kindergarten through grade five. Only the preschool will be tuition-based.
Bryant Montessori School also includes sixth, seventh and eighth grades as well as preschool and the elementary grades.
Geiger students in third through fifth grades will be taught using the traditional education methods next year.
Tacoma Public Schools will host Montessori information nights from 6:30–7:30 p.m. at:
- Thursday, Feb. 18, Bryant Montessori School, 717 S. Grant Ave.
- Wednesday, Feb. 24, Geiger Elementary School, 621 S. Jackson Ave.
- Monday, March 1, Geiger Elementary School, 621 S. Jackson Ave.
- Thursday, March 4, Bryant Montessori School, 717 S. Grant Ave.
The district’s preschool and kindergarten enrollment begins March 1.
Preschool
To enroll in Geiger’s Montessori preschool for the next school year, the cost for full-day preschool will be $600 per month for 10 months, August –May. A $25 deposit is required along with the last month’s tuition upon registration. Students must be at least three years old by Aug. 31 and toilet trained.
Kindergarten
Free full-day kindergarten is available to those who register. Seats are limited, so register early.
